Barnes & Noble College Bookstore/BASC Scholarship AMOUNT
A total of $10,000 will be awarded annually and distributed during the fall and spring semester following awarding the scholarship. This scholarship may be divided among several students on an annual basis. This award may be used for educational expenses at The College at Brockport as long as the student remains an employee of the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation.
ELIGIBILITY and CRITERIA
This award recognizes student employees working for BASC, Parking Services, and the college Bookstore who have demonstrated outstanding service to their community and/or the College at Brockport campus, commitment to their work, and maintained high academic standards .
ELIGIBILITY:
- Undergraduate - current student with no less than 12 credit hours at the College at Brockport OR Graduate - current student with no less than 6 credit hours at the College at Brockport
- Employed - with BASC, Bookstore, or Parking on or prior to January 1, 2007 (no less than one year) OR have worked no less than 200 hours
- GPA - student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better
CRITERIA:
- Broad community service and/or campus involvement. Service may include volunteering for nursing homes, schools, athletic organizations, volunteer fire/ambulance, campus fund raisers, campus organizations, etc. It may also include community service while in high school.
- Demonstrates leadership
- Is reliable
- Works well within a diverse environment
- Takes initiative
- Is customer oriented
- Gets along well with fellow employees
AVI Vending Scholarship
AMOUNT:
A total of $2,500 in scholarship is awarded and payable in two equal amounts during the following two semesters of the award announcement. This scholarship amount may be divided for more than one student.
This award may be used for educational expenses at The College at Brockport as long as the student remains an employee of the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation.
ELIGIBILITY and CRITERIA
This award is aimed at promoting a commitment to excellence in our students. The award is based on the belief that outstanding BASC, Parking, or Barnes & Noble bookstore student employees who demonstrates enthusiasm, excellence in fulfilling his/her job responsibilities and a commitment to the work ethic, deserve such recognition. ELIGIBILITY:
- Undergraduate - current student with no less than 12 credit hours at the College at Brockport OR Graduate - current student with no less than 6 credit hours at the College at Brockport
- Employed - with BASC, Bookstore, or Parking on or prior to January 1, 2007 (no less than one year) OR have worked no less than 200 hours
- GPA - student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better
CRITERIA:
- Has made significant contributions to BASC, Parking, or the college bookstore
- Demonstrates leadership
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills
- Takes initiative
- Produces high quality work
- Demonstrates a pleasant disposition with fellow employees and customers
- Is customer oriented
- Is adaptable to all circumstances
Scholarship Application
To apply for either or both of the above scholarships, students must complete an online application and must email an essay as to why the applicant feels that are deserving of this/these scholarship(s) (be sure to address the specific scholarship criteria) and at least one but not more than two supporting letters to Betty Drennen by January 31, 2008.
Application Process Details
- All applicants should complete an online application which will ask for the following information:
- Name
- Banner # (for current College at Brockport student only)
- Campus/Local Address and Phone numbers
- E-mail
- Academic Major
- Class Year, credits earned, and cumulative GPA
- An essay, of no more than two typewritten pages, indicating the reason why the candidate feels they are deserving of this scholarship should be emailed to Betty Drennen. Reasons may include but are not limited to financial need, academic excellence, demonstrated leadership qualities and demonstrated community service. The essay should also address the specific scholarship criteria.
- At least one, but no more than two letters of support, to be emailed to Betty Drennen.
- When emailing items, please send as DOC or PDF attachments and include which scholarship you are applying for -- either "Barnes & Noble College Bookstore/BASC Scholarship", "AVI Vending/BASC Scholarship", or "Both BASC Scholarships" -- in the subject line.
